Career One 25 years experience as a civilian engineer working for the Navy after graduation with a BSME from Michigan Tech, first as a mechanical engineer, next as an electronics engineer, and finally as a computer engineer. Work assignments included work on underway replenishment, TARTAR and TERRIER missile launchers, and HARPOON weapon and training systems. Oh, and a stint at Cal State Northridge and another stint as an adjunct professor at Cal Poly, SLO, with eventual completion of my MSE from CSUN. Oh, did I mention that I am a third generation engineer? My grandfather switched from Marine Engineering to Mechanical Engineering when he attended the University of Michigan, but never completed his degree. My father received both a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Career Two = My Day Job Part-time lecturer in computer science at Cal Poly. I have now taught the same material in C (my favorite language), Fortran 77, Basic, C++, Fortran 90, Java, and now MATLAB. My sister teaches first grade near Dallas, TX. Our only cousin on our mother's side of the family teaches at Alma College in Michigan. I guess teaching is in my blood, like winemaking (see History). Our great aunt Anna Hutchenreuther was also a teacher. She was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Michigan and taught English to the many German immigrants in Michigan. I have her textbook and a copy of her teaching credential. Career Three The South Park underwear gnomes school of business, as it applies to winemaking: (1) make wine, (2) ???, (3) profit. I am not yet ready to give up the day job. |
